Rajshahi Division v Chittagong Division ? National Cricket League ...

Rajshahi Division v Chittagong Division ? National Cricket League, 2012/13 ? Match Update

Centurions Mahbubul Karim, Mominul Haque, and Faisal Hossain all played a major role in propelling the Chittagong Division to a massive victory, by a margin of an innings and 113 runs, over the Rajshahi Division during their first-class match in the National Cricket League, played at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 2 Ground in Savar from November 16 to 19.

Chittagong kicked the match off on their own terms, by winning the toss and choosing to field first. Yasin Arafat (20.2-1-64-4), Noor Hossain (12-2-44-2), and Monowar Hossain (9-2-15-2) all played a vital role in keeping Rajshahi in check, and the team ended up bowled for 239 on the first day of play. The only notable contribution came from centurion Jahurul Islam (118), but he received no support from the remainder of the batting order, with the second highest score being a paltry 30 from Sanjamul Islam.

Chittagong, however, raised the bar in a major way, and despite the performances of Farhad Hossain (45-5-143-6) and Saqlain Sajib (44-8-128-3), three batsmen managed stellar centuries and played key roles during their team?s innings ? Player of the Match Mahbubul Karim (154), Mominul Haque (114), and Faisal Hossain (111). Skipper Nafees Iqbal (32), Rezaul Karim (26), and Aftab Ahmed (24) were the only other batsmen who managed to pass 20, but the team had been set up by the three centurions, and reached a sizeable total of 510 before they were all out on the third day of play.

The total proved substantial enough to sustain Chittagong, and the team did not need to step up to bat for a second time, managing to keep Rajshahi in line during their second innings.

Faced with the pressure of beating 510 and setting Chittagong a challenging target, Rajshahi collapsed completely, and served as easy pickings for Mohammad Younus (20.1-5-62-5) and Noor Hossain (11-1-41-3). Only four batsmen - Jahurul Islam (56), Rajshahi skipper Farhad Reza (39), Jubair Ahmed (20*), and Farhad Hossain (19) ? managed to contribute double-digit scores. The rest remained insipid, and failed to face up to the Chittagong bowlers. The final day saw the Chittagong Division managing to bowl the Rajshahi Division out for a meagre 158, going on to claim victory by an innings and 113 runs.
