Limerick police have filed charges of making terroristic threats against a 16-year-old Spring-Ford Area High School student in connection with statements he is alleged to have made Tuesday.
The student, whose name was not released, is in 10th grade and is alleged to have made ?several threatening statements to teachers and administrative personnel,? according to a police statement.
The Spring-Ford Area School District released a statement as well, indicating ?disciplinary measures? were taken after the remarks were made Tuesday.
?At no time were any students, staff or teachers in danger during this incident,? the school district statement said. ?The matter is now in the hands of the Limerick Township Police Department.?
Police, who confirmed ?at no time were any students in danger,? said the student was ?taken into custody and transported to Horsham Clinic for psychiatric evaluation.?
The police statement also noted that ?charges were filed after consultation with the district attorney?s office.?
The incident takes on special significance in light of the Dec. 14 mass shootings of six teachers and 20 students in a Newtown, Conn. elementary school.
Another Spring-Ford 10th grader was charged following a Nov. 14 incident t the Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center in which the student told others he would ?shoot up the place? and that ?someone is going to get shot.?
Charges in the case of that student, 15, included two counts of terroristic threats, a count of harassment and another count of disorderly conduct, which were filed Nov. 30.
The district statement on the Dec. 18 threat noted ?the safety and well-being of all students is our highest priority, which is why the district handles all threats swiftly and appropriately.? Continued...
